About

Prior to beginning his legal career, Jamie founded and operated a hardwood flooring company in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta. After completing his articles with Miles, Zimmer & Associates, Jamie joined the firm as a partner. Jamie has a general practice that includes both litigation and solicitor work. He has successfully represented clients in all levels of court in British Columbia, including the Provincial Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeal.

In his spare time, Jamie enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, snowboarding, practicing judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mountain biking and playing music.

Representative Work

  • Acting for both employers and employees in employment-related claims and settlement.
  • Sampley v. Sampley, 2015 BCCA 113 – counsel for the husband on the wife’s appeal and the husband’s cross-appeal of a Supreme Court order (made in Sampley v. Sampley, 2014 BCSC 2434). The husband was successful on all relief sought in his cross-appeal except for the appeal of costs. The wife’s appeal was dismissed in its entirety and the parties’ child was ordered to be returned to the United States.
  • S.M.W. v. R.E.W. 2013 BCSC 2362 – counsel for the wife who was successful in seeking child support for her daughter attending university and her disabled son – aged 21 and 23, respectively. The wife was also successful in her claim to be deemed the sole administrator of a scholarship fund contributed to by both parties for the benefit of their son.
  • Cook Estate (Re), 2019 BCSC 417 – counsel for the beneficiaries of an estate in a court application opposing, among other orders sought, the executor’s application that a handwritten document represents the testamentary intentions of the deceased. The beneficiaries were successful in having the executor’s application dismissed.

Carly Van Meetelen - Legal Assistant to Jamie Lalonde

Carly joined the MZA team in 2019 as an Office Assistant and quickly moved into the role as Legal Assistant for Mr. Lalonde. Prior to starting with the firm Carly worked in health care as a care aide and support worker.

In her spare time, Carly enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys. Camping, crafting, laughing, and spending time adventuring are among Carly’s favourite activities.
